Synthesis of Magnetic Chitosan Composite Beads as an Adsorbent for Removal of Organic Matter from Peat Water

Groundwater in peatlands has the potential to be utilized as a water source, but its high organic matter content presents challenges. This study aimed improve quality of peat through adsorption using chitosan magnetic beads composite adsorbent. Magnetic (KMB) was synthesized by mixing chitosan, acetic acid, and mixture Fe2+/Fe3+ solution with mole ratio 1:2. then dropped into sodium hydroxide solution. In addition KMB, containing glutaraldehyde crosslinking agent (KMBG) were also synthesized. The results composites analysis Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrophotometer showed typical Fe-O absorption bands at 582 cm-1 578 for KMB KMBG. C=N band KMBG appeared 1631 cm-1. X-ray diffraction (XRD) revealed characteristic peaks Fe3O4 2θ = 30.2°, 35.5°, 43.2°, 57.0°, 62.8° an amorphous structure. performed varying pH (2, 3, 4, 5) mass adsorbent (50, 70, 100, 200, 300 mg). optimum occurred 2 absorbent 0.1 g 0.07 Applying on reduces turbidity, color, absorbance wavelength 254 nm (Aλ=254), which is better than These three parameters’ efficiency percentages 44%, 78%, 74% 17%, 30%, 59%
